Lego Robot Solves Rubik's Cube in 5.35 seconds, Beating the Human Record
Earlier thi the time, I noted with a bit of species chauvanism that it hadn’t beaten the human record. Alas, I spoke too soon. A new robot, the Cubestormer II, has beaten the human world record of 5.66 seconds.
And here’s the cool thing: the Cubestormer II, built by Mike Dobson and David Gilday, was built with Lego Mindstorm Kits and uses as it’s “brain” a Samsung Galaxy S II with a custom built, Rubik’s Cube solving app. The app uses the camera of the phone to note the position of the cube, determines the solution, and then instructs the Lego kit on how to move the cube.
